To audience’s surprise, superpowered aliens invade and enslave Earth. Just when all hope seemed lost, Koizumi gets up from her bowl of ramen and dispatches the invaders in a single ultimate attack, saving the planet and revealing that Ramen Daisuki Koizumi-san was a shounen action anime all along.
While initial reactions to the episode were a mix of shock and confusion, critics praised the plot twist for finally explaining how Koizumi can eat so many bowls of ramen every episode without getting fat. The nearly 5000 calories she averages in each episode are used to charge up her powerful energy attacks.
“I used to think this anime was so booooring,” MyAnimeList reviewer NickDen wrote. “But now that this episode had flashing colors and cool fighting, I really like it. That’s all I’m looking for in anime, really.”
After the ending credits, a new anime that will feature Koizumi fighting evil along with Shidare Hotaru of Dagashi Kashi and Shijou Takane of The iDOLM@STER has been greenlit for 2019. Production company TBS has billed it as “the most ambitious crossover event in history.”
